Education and Training

In Luxembourg schooling is mandatory from 4 till 16. The public school is free and the costs are mainly cover by the State. The children attend first the "école fondamentale" before entring the secondary school.

Primary school consists of 4 cycles:

  • 1st. Cycle: 3-5 years old (with the first year being optional)
  • 2nd Cycle: 6-7 years old
  • 3rd Cycle: 8-9 years old
  • 4th Cycle: 10-11 years old

Secondary school is divided in two different branches:

  • Secondary school( 7 years)
  • Technical secondary school (different branches and from 6-8 years of studies depending on the speciality chosen).

Special measures for the foreign newcomer children are both proposed for the primary and secondary school.

Children with special needs education are either integrated in the "normal" school or they attend a school from the "éducation différenciée".

The long-life learning allows every adult to have access to a professional training, to courses preparing the exams for national diplomas and to all the other general courses.
